"Malfunction with the Hydraulic pump".

Caused by: Seems to be a more common malfunction.

Multiple types: Ferrari F430, Ferrari 599 & Ferrari 360 Paddle-shift issue. If the vehicle does not start/won't shift into drive upon start-up, or stops changing gear whilst driving, it's possible the pressurized fluid is not being delivered by the F1 hydraulic pump as it should.

We can talk over a basic brief on the phone should you be looking for more than an annual service.

Cutch Replacement (F1) Ferrari:

These may only last around 15-20,000 miles depending on how the vehicle has been driven. Older models have a single-plate clutch, with newer models a multiple-plate one costing twice the price to replace.

(Manual) Gearbox Failure:

The older, pre 1998 model Ferrari's only had manual gearboxes. Reliable, yes - however known to have weak clutches and sometimes suffer with the wearing down of the gear-transfer linkages. Usually, owners have to shift from 1st to 3rd by completely missing out second gear, until the gearbox and fluids have warmed up.

What to look out for: slipping of gears, selection trouble, clutch slip & general noise (whine) coming from the gearbox when the vehicle is started and driven.

Repairs are generally very expensive.

Failing (F1 Paddle-shirt) Transmission System:

The F1 paddle-shift is reliable on Ferrari, however it's known that sometimes the issue of skipping gears or dropping out of gear completely may occur. More often, it's a failure of the F1 pump. However, low oil due to leakage, including the crankshaft oil - may cause this and require refurbishing or replacing.

The clutch and transmission valve may require replacing at the same time to ensure the car drives as it should upon repair. Otherwise, the vehicle may need to be back in the garage much sooner than expected, and everything will need taking apart again.

Failed Suspension Platforms:

If you can hear some excess squeaky noise whilst driving, and you've figured out that it's not the exhaust, brakes, or manifold - it's possible the suspension platforms require some maintenance or replacement.

These platforms hold the springs in place - a common issue on some models.

Cracking Exhaust Manifolds & Exhaust Brackets:

More common with the F430, but also possible with another Ferrari depending on how they've been driven. Exhaust rattling and manifold cracking due to extreme heat expansion and contraction within the system.

Reduced feel of power, or a serious change in engine tone is a sign of a cracked manifold. Rattling too, but this is mainly a sign of exhaust wear on the exhaust system - but usually, it's the support brackets which fail first.

Convertible-top Hydraulic Failure:

Quite a common problem with nearly all older model Ferrari's is a failure of the hydraulic system. Overtime the mechanics of the system wear out or malfunction. It can be age related, or the past owner of the vehicle has erected or declined it incorrectly (usually slows down - has been forced).

It's been known to cause additional electrical issues when trying to rectify, affecting the alarm and immobilizer - owners usually try and fix it themselves first.

F430 Failing Motor Mounts:

The motor mounts are made of rubber and the engine when driven for a long period of time heats up extensively. Combine this with vibrations, simply causes these units to fail.

If the engine feels like it's moving around under power, or you hear/feel vibrations - it's a strong possibility that these may need replacing.

348 Climate Control Failure:

The ECUs within these cars are usually at fault as the whole climate control system is connected through it. You will be extremely lucky to find a replacement (even used) with owners having no option but to have the current system reconditioned.

Usually, it's the soldered joints which require attention, but repairs on these are highly specialized and take a great deal of time and precision.

Replacement Variator F430:

Loss of power? The variator allows movement of power from the left side of the camshaft to the right side - for a smooth power range. Replacing a faulty solenoid would for example prevent a complete camshaft rebuild or variator replacement (these types of repairs are not cheap).

This issue is less common however it's reported that some owners with less than 80k miles have needed to replace the unit 3 times in ownership.
