Caused by: Unsure, but accounts for around 33% of Maserati repairs.
The CAMBIOCORSA, Maserati's automatic paddle-shift transmission is known to fail, and when this does the replacement costs thousands. Pay attention to the smoothness when parking, does it jerk? pay attention to any clutch smells, or juddering when you apply the brake pedal.
Certain Maserati's (2005-2008 Quattroporte & 2008 Gran Turismo) are affected by issues which can lead to a failure of the rear tie rod. If it does fail, then there’s a significant loss of steering control and an increased crash risk.
Depending on the severity of the incident/damage done - repairs can be extremely expensive directly with Maserati main dealers.
My Maserati is in Limp mode:
This appears to be a fairly common problem for all Maserati's, where engine performance is drastically cut and the car enters what’s known as, ‘limp mode’.
The engine returns enough power to get you to the garage but that’s about it. And what’s worse, is the underlying problem isn’t an easy one to spot. You’ll need to find a specialist Maserati garage where they know what they’re doing. Even then, they may spend many hours trying to identify the issue costing thousands.
Sticky Dash Centre Vents, Plastics & Buttons:
Buttons and plastics get sticky and gummy in some Maserati cars. To prevent this, it's a good idea to maintain/clean the dash Centre/Ac vents, interior door handles and other movable console plastic parts.
New buttons for the dashboard are around £350 without fitting.
Maserati Glovebox Repair:
Ill-fitting, non-closing of glovebox's - are an issue on some older models.
Maserati’s Paddle-shift (Cambiocorsa):
Imperative to maintain these by replacing the fluid and adjusting to ensure efficiency. They say to avoid purchasing older cars (first year of production) with this unit as reliability can be an issue especially if driven regular and hard.
If performance at speed is affected a jerky gearchange when parking and selecting reverse occurs. If the clutch begins to smell this must be looked at. Hopefully, some maintenance and adjustments will be enough to save you the cost of replacement which doesn't provide much change from £22000.00.
Maserati Quattroporte Slow Acceleration:
Maserati Quattroporte is known to suffer from slow acceleration. Identified early enough, some simple maintenance can be enough to prevent any serious trouble arising.
Clogged fuel filter, fuel pump malfunction, clogged air filter and worn spark plugs - are common items to replace. Less common are clogged catalytic convertors, a faulty position sensor, dirty injectors or worn-down ignition coil.
Replacement Variator:
Relating to the loss of power - this issue is less common; however, it's reported that some vehicles with less than 80k miles have needed a replacement this unit, more than once.
The variator allows movement of power from the left side of the camshaft to the right for a smooth power range. Replacing a faulty solenoid would for example prevent a complete camshaft rebuild and variator replacement - these types of repairs are not cheap.
