McLaren is a fairly new brand in terms of road-going supercars. Yes, they have the McLaren F1 first released in 1992; a partnership with the likes of Mercedes SLR and of course many years of heritage on the track, but it wasn't until 2010 that the company became a standalone manufacturer by releasing the 12C road car in 2011.
Because of this, it seems common for owners to suffer from the issue of engine management, "warning lights".
Covered under warranty by McLaren, which is very positive as these cars had teething problems with the software. Various intermittent warning lights flashed, with owners going back and forth from their respected dealership for investigation.
We don't commission the repair or diagnostics of any Software-related issues for, McLaren cars.
2016-2018 models Warranty Coming-off:
Rattles from within the dashboard are a common issue with owners who've used their cars often in the countryside or rugged B roads.
Rattles and Squeaks are heard from the outside of these vehicles too.
Also, city driving due to the number of speedbumps and potholes owners must navigate around.
A common request from clients who want the noises to go away. We can help find these and make them disappear.
McLaren Butterfly Door Adjustment:
The earlier, pre 2017 models were a little prone to misaligned doors which are covered under warranty by McLaren. However, some are now no longer covered, depending on age and usage, and the issue with these doors and catches still occurs.
The older models simply did not like being slammed shut, however the 12C's for example always had to be slammed shut. Some vehicles were known to suffer from the occasional drop in glass too, due to an over sensitive anti-trap function.
Door-opening mechanism due to wet conditions is a less common fault, but the small door sensor allowing open/closure has been known to short-out.
A rare request but we've successfully made adjustments to these doors.
Old and soft latches require replacement and ideally upgrading to better than manufacturer grade.
The Front Lift Pump Whines When Activated:
This was a £4500 additional extra allowing the front end of the vehicle to be lifted slightly and quickly, ensuring better speed bump negotiation.
Rather than replacing this unit, we'd firstly recommend a service. After this, if the annoying whine still occurs - we'd assessed it, and perhaps advise on a replacement.
Poor Visibility - Washers/Lights/Windscreen:
Something to service if the vehicle has been stored away for some time (especially within a colder unit) and is coming out of hibernation is the misting over of lights and washers.
Lights are known to steam over, and washers have been known to stick, wipers have been known to have jammed motors.
Gearbox/Transmission Issues:
Replacement gearboxes are rare for newer cars which are covered under warranty by McLaren. However, older models not maintained efficiently / not used - do need to be regularly serviced as the cost of replacement can exceed £25000.00.
The MP4-12C for example, is known to have gearbox oil leaks and burst seals which require maintaining to prevent a more expensive replacement.
Air-Brake Adjustment:
If the vehicle is no longer covered under warranty and the main dealer seems to charge excessively, adjustments and servicing of these can be completed at a much more competitive rate.
As we specialize in more than one brand of Supercar repairs - it allows us to provide better, more competitive rate in comparison to specific main dealer specialists.
Shock Absorber Leakage:
You can tell if the vehicle has leaking shock absorbers as the steering will become more jerky and rigid when driving. Even know to have a flat feeling.
